This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to support and protect children and young people who are at risk of harm. This course is essential for anyone working in a "mandated reporter" capacity.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify Indicators: Recognise the physical, behavioural, and environmental signs of abuse and neglect.

  • Professional Boundaries: Understanding the "Duty of Care" and legal responsibilities under the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998.

  • Effective Reporting: How to document observations clearly and follow the correct reporting protocols to the Child Protection Helpline (eReport) or Police.

  • Communication Skills: How to interact appropriately and sensitively with children and young people when a risk is identified.
